Godfrey Statia has been appointed Commissioner General of the Guyana Revenue Authorities. He succeeds Khurshid Sattaur who had served in that position for more than a decade.
Statia, who was based in Florida, USA, had applied for the post following an advertisement posted by the GRA. He travelled to Guyana and was interviewed with the other applicants.
Initially, observers concluded that none of the applicants suited the Board of Directors since the re-advertised the position.
Statia was, however, invited to return to Guyana and the advertisement was withdrawn.
People close to the GRA said that Statia was initially to meet with the GRA Board of Directors today. He arrived early yesterday morning for that meeting but before it was convened he was informed that he had been appointed Commissioner General.
Reports are that he will still be meeting with the Board Chairman, Rawle Lucas, today.
Statia will assume duty on Monday, July 25, next. His terms of employment will be no less favourable than Khurshid Sattaur’s.
Statia was formerly employed as Chief Financial Officer of Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company. He moved on to operate a consultancy before migrating to Florida where his wife is a Vice President at a Florida University.
