The Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) has named a strong junior team that will represent this nation at the 2016 edition of the Caribbean Junior cycling Championships which will be hosted in St. Lucia, July 30-31.
Reigning National Junior Road Race and Time Trial champion Christopher Cornelius of Team Evolution will headline the Guyanese team which will also include the United Cycle Club duo of Andrew Hicks and Raphael Leung along with Linden Bauxite Flyers Club’s, Jornel Yearwood.
Taking the lone Juvenile spot was Zaman Khan of Flying Ace Cycle Club of Berbice. Kaieteur Sports understands that the riders will also be contesting the Time Trials.
Officials named to travel with the team are Coach Randolph Roberts and Marc Sonoram as Manager. The young Guyanese will be hopeful of out-pedaling their counterparts from Barbados, USVI, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Bermuda, Trinidad and Tobago, Suriname, Jamaica, Martinique and Puerto Rico which will all be represented.
The 10 kilometer Time Trials for boys (15-16) juveniles and the 20 kilometer for junior men will all be held on Saturday July 30 in the afternoon on the Millennium Highway, while the Road Race will be contested on Sunday July 31st, juveniles will cover a distance of 62.2 kilometers with the juniors expected to battle for 100 kilometers; the course is the Vieux Fort / La Resource Circuit starting and finishing outside the bus terminal on the Vieux Fort-Laborie Highway.
