Dear Editor;
Please permit me a space in your newspaper letter column to share my views on what has been happening over the past months on the PPP TV Program showing on LRTVS Ch.10 in Berbice, called “Perspective” hosted by Mr. Mustapha.
I have been listening to the said program every Sunday evening, whereby there are sometimes panel discussions with top members of the opposition. I really appreciate the program because it educates me as a resident to know where the previous government erred and went corrupt. So it’s a good program for the government to listen to.
But I am very surprised whereby in almost every program, the host will bad-mouth the APNU+AFC members, Mr. Abel Seetaram and REO Dr. Ramayya. Sometimes he goes as far to say things that are not fitting or personal to those men. On Sunday last he lashed out against Mr. Setaram when a caller mentioned about the endorsement of some articles on the flood that were written by Mr. Setaram. He goes on week after week to accuse the man of breaking up the RDC meetings and much more.
I have approached some AFC members in Region 5 as to why they are not reacting to the PPP’s attack on both gentlemen. I was told that the PPP is right to dirty him and that the AFC has nothing to say about the situation. I was also told that they deserve such bad-mouthing. It surprises me to hear such.
It now leaves me to wonder if the AFC is working on a side agenda against the gentlemen and government. Because I can recall that the AFC did not have any candidate at the NDC elections in my area and was told that happened in many other areas also.
But this tells me something as to why Mr. Setaram is being attacked by the PPP. Because they know of the support he took from them during the past two elections in Region 5. They know that the man is a man of the people and has been making inroads in the PPP supported areas. The gentleman is seen interacting with all people no matter of race, religion or political support. He is also a regular letter writer for the APNU+AFC and he attacks the PPP in a very constructive way.
So in a sense, if the PPP continues to scandalize both gentlemen and the AFC does not react then they will have their way as to get back to their supporters. The APNU+AFC cannot afford to lose any of the men because I know that they made a huge difference since the 2011 elections and mostly in 2015.
Will the APNU+AFC throw away those gentlemen because of hearsay and allegations that come their way? Then they need to ask if there are some within the parties that is orchestrating for this to be done to both gentlemen.
In Region 5 it seems that the AFC is backing the attacks on Mr. Seetaram because I was told he supports and campaigned with the APNU during the last elections for LGE and the AFC did not campaign. I wonder what is next for both gentlemen from this government? The government cannot afford to lose any of those men at the cost of the PPP or anyone.
