Defending champion Sparta Boss marched into the semi-final round in the Ministry of Health Soft Shoe Football Championship after the defeated Queen Street Tiger Bay 5-0 on Monday at the Ministry of Education ground.
Devon Millington and Gregory Richardson led the scorers for Sparta Boss with doubles either side of half time. Millington was on target in the ninth and 20th minutes, while Richardson netted in the eighth and 24th. Dennis Edwards in the 30th minute completed the tally.
Sparta are down to face North East La Penitence in the next round after the latter defeated Sophia 3-1 on penalty kicks. The two teams were locked 1-1 at the end of normal and extra time.
Dwayne Lowe scored for Sophia in the 21st minute, while Devon Charles equalised in the 29th. The other semi-final will pit Broad Street against Tucville after the pair recorded victories over Kitty and Globe Yard respectively.
Broad Street defeated Kitty Weavers 3-1; thanks to a Leon Richardson double in the 12th and 16th minute, while Jamal Cozier added to the score in the 28th minute. Colin Clark in the 24th minute made the lone response for the losers.
Tucville overcame Globe Yard 6-4 on sudden death penalty kicks after the contest ended locked at 5-5. Dennis Edwards scored a double in the 19th and 23rd minute as well as Kareem Knights with a brace in the 25th and 28th minute, with Tefon Daly adding the other in the 22nd minute.
For Globe Yard, Delon Lanferman had a hat-trick in the third, 12th and 27th minute. He was assisted by a double from Andrew Murray Jr in the ninth and 20th minutes.
Action continues tomorrow at the Tucville ground from 20:00hrs.
The winner of the tournament collects $300,000 and the Championship trophy, while the second placed side will receive $200,000 and the runners-up accolade.
The third placed team receives $100,000 and the respective trophy with the fourth place finishers pocketing $50,000 and a trophy.
Individual prizes will be awarded to the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Highest Goal Scorer. Among the sponsors on board are: Ministry of Public Health, GTT, Lucky Dollar, Nigel Supermarket, Junior’s Jewellery, Star Party Rentals and 2-J’s General Store.
