Kitty Stabbing… Suspect planned to murder ex-lover
Selina Ramotar sustained over 10 stab wounds.
Uttanpad Sewnaraine aka “Umesh” or “Padi”, a Kitty route bus driver, reportedly planned to murder his estranged lover 29-year-old Selina Ramotar. The man lay in wait for his intended victim at her 65 David Street, Kitty residence.
He allegedly pounced on her as she was returning home from buying dinner and stabbed her over 10 times with a small “skinning knife”.
According to sources, when police ranks arrested him, they asked him if he knew that what he had just done was attempted murder. Sewnaraine reportedly said that it was murder, that he came to murder her (Ramotar). Kaieteur News was told that the man kept saying that he did what he had to do and would “rot in jail now”.
Ramotar is stable at a private city hospital, and when this newspaper visited the hospital, her sister told Kaieteur News that after her sister decided to break off their relationship the man became obsessed and would stalk her almost on a daily basis.
She continued that her sister even made reports to the police station after being threatened, but would relent afterwards.
She said that he would show up at Ramotar’s workplace, at her home and even when she was on family outings. Reliable sources speaking to this newspaper said that Ramotar and Sewnaraine’s nine-year-old daughter would even tell her teacher of the threats that Sewnaraine would make to her mother.
After Saturday night’s attack, Ramotar was left with severe injuries. She sustained a gaping wound on her left arm and as a result the nerves were damaged. This newspaper understands that she has lost the use of her left hand but doctors are trying to fix it.
Ramotar’s sibling noted that her sister was moving on with her life since Sewnaraine is married and has three children with his wife. She even said that her sister had told Sewnaraine that he would have to choose between his wife and her (Ramotar) or she would break things off.
Eyewitnesses at the scene, speaking under condition of anonymity, said that Sewnaraine’s bus had a number of plastic restraints and what appeared to be a wooden club.
One neighbour said that after the incident one of Sewnaraine’s relatives came and collected the vehicle. This led some persons to surmise that Sewnaraine was planning to abduct Selina Ramotar.
