Dear Editor;
The removal of Dinesh Ramdin from the West Indies team should not come as a total surprise to anyone who follows West Indies cricket.
This follows a systemic pattern of removing certain players from the team.
The axing of Ganga, Ramnarine and others, from West Indies cricket to name only three, followed a similar pattern to the one employed against Ramdin.
The reason ostensibly given was one of inadequate performance by Ramdin and was presumably the same for the other two mentioned.
Incidentally, Ramdin’s record as West Indies wicketkeeper is outstanding. If this was the case one finds it hard to understand the continued selection of Marlon Samuels, he of the questionable past.
This player has been mediocre at best in all forms of the game but has been a fixture on any West Indies team. I won’t belabor the bias to make my point because others notably the Davis brothers of Trinidad of an earlier era –Charlie and Bryan were also harshly treated by the selectors. And now Lendl Simmons and Dwayne Bravo have also been axed for reasons unknown.
The good ship that was West Indies cricket continues to flounder.
Incompetence and insularity, continue to be its hallmark and is one that the West Indies media has for the most part been silent about.
