With the aim of being selected to represent Guyana in the upcoming Caribbean Football Union U17 tournament that will be played from July 15-19 in the United States Virgin Islands.
The squad, which commenced preparation on June 2 with a trial game at Leonora, was reduced to 26 and will subsequently be trimmed to 18.
The players continued with their preparation Saturday under the watchful eyes of head coach Anthony Stephens, Vurlon Mills, Andrew Hazel and Eon De Vieira.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport coach Stephens, said the players have shown tremendous improvement while in camp.
He added that given the limited time they have to prepare the team he is confident they can give a good account of themselves on tour.
The head coach pointed that the fitness level of the players keeps improving. “Fitness is something you have to work on, it does not come overnight, but I have seen some improvement and I am confident they will be match ready before the tournament commence since the technical staff is working hard with them. The players have also shown the willingness to learn which is good,” he posited, adding that the players are gelling well.
Stephens stated that there are some quality players and among those in training are Jeremy Garrett who represents Fruta Conquerors in senior competitions and is the only player to play at this level previously, Malakai Adams and Nicholas Mc Arthur.
Guyana is grouped alongside the host, Jamaica and Antigua and Barbuda, and is expected to depart on July 13.
