Unpleasant welcome… CJIA official says substandard washroom “a work in progress”

After an arriving passenger complained earlier this week about the unsatisfactory state of a particular washroom facility at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, a representative of the Airport has responded, saying that the washroom is “a work in progress.”
Acting Head of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)’s Secretariat, Aneka Edwards, told Kaieteur News that there are continuous maintenance works being carried out at the airport, and it was unfortunate that the passenger had this experience.
The passenger had explained that the pipe leading to the washroom was not working. A pipe was placed beneath the sink causing users to have to reach under it to access water.
Edwards defended this apparent inconvenience, by indicating that the sink was a “sensor-type” and the pipe beneath the sink was placed there to allow cleaners to access water to clean the facility more effectively.
Quizzed on the mouldings that were separating from the wall, the tiny bolt that had replaced the broken lock, and the paint flaking from the bars in the facility, she stated that those issues are being addressed along with others, but reiterated that continuous works were being carried out.
Earlier this week, an arriving passenger received an unpleasant welcome at the airport after he went into the $8M facility. The facility has faced heavy scrutiny after many thought the facility was massively overpriced.
The passenger had stated that the facility was located in an international airport where people from all corners of the globe would often frequent, and to be welcomed with such mediocrity was an embarrassment to Guyana.
