A man accused of fatally stabbing a “junkie” was yesterday remanded to prison after facing a murder charge, when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, yesterday.
Eustace Griffith was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on July 4, at Hadfield Street, Georgetown, he murdered Steven Dexter Arthur.
According to reports, the two men became involved in a brief scuffle after the accused threw a banana peel at Arthur. However, the scuffle escalated and Griffith reportedly armed himself with a knife and attacked Arthur.
It was reported that the now dead man was stabbed to the stomach.
The accused reportedly ran into the Brickdam Police Station where he was arrested.
Arthur hails from Middle Walk, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara.
Magistrate Latchman instructed the unrepresented accused to return to court on July 15.
The matter was transferred to the court of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for assignment.
