“I don’t remember killing my wife and baby,” says Suresh Ganesh, who allegedly butchered the two persons and almost hacked off his mother’s right arm at their Lot 57 Best Village, West Coast Demerara home last Friday.
The 27-year-old man was discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) late yesterday and taken into police custody. He will be making his first court appearance today.
The father of two will be charged for the murder of his wife, Vanessa Sookram, 34, and his two-year-old son, Joel Ganesh.
Suresh Ganesh, who was described as a drug addict by residents of Best Village, will also be charged for chopping his mother, 49-year-old Jennifer Monplaisir, and a Samaroo Dam, West Bank Demerara resident, David Persaud.
At the hospital, Ganesh, who was under police guard, claimed that he does not recall the rampage last Friday which resulted in the death of his wife and son.
However, he contradicted his assertion by blaming his mother for his actions, since he claimed that she and her reputed husband would invite strange men into their yard to smoke “dope”. He said that as a result of this (bad company) he started smoking.
And according to Ganesh, due to men frequently entering their yard, his wife reportedly started an affair with one of them.
“When I find out, I tell her (his wife) to move, but she nah move out,” Ganesh reflected.
While the alleged perpetrator claimed that he does not recall what transpired on that fateful day, he said that his frustration over his wife’s infidelity and his anger with his mother could have fueled the attack.
When Ganesh was taken to the hospital after he was shot by police, doctors who examined him observed that he was “high on something.”
Around 04:00 hrs last Friday, Suresh Ganesh reportedly went berserk and slaughtered his partner and son. He also chopped his mother multiple times, almost severing her right arm and fingers.
His mother during an interview at the hospital said that her son was going to behead her that morning, but ran away when he noticed neighbours coming to her aid.
She recalled him shouting and asking for food in his shack, which is located at the back of her home. It was when she went over to his home to hand him a piece of bread that he chopped her.
She is still hospitalised.
Meanwhile, Vanessa Sookram and her son were laid to rest yesterday.
