Govt to study aviation impact on country’s economy
Government is moving to launch a study of the impact of the aviation industry on the country’s economy.
Government is moving to carry out a study on the air transport sector to determine its economic impact.
The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), in Sunday’s edition of Kaieteur News, invited Expressions of Interest for the consultancy services for study to determine the impact of air transport on the country’s economy.
The invitation explained that the Government of Guyana is looking to conduct a study that will assist industry stakeholders and decision makers to better understand the aviation sector in Guyana.
The main scope of the study is to entail an exploration of the aviation sector’s core economic contribution to the Guyana economy.
It should cover the impact to the Gross Domestic Product and employment within Guyana, arising both as a result of the aviation sector’s own activities (the direct impact) and as a result of the consequential expenditure impacts for the other part of the economy.
Staffers of GCAA will also be trained on the methodology and procedures of the study.
The bids will close on July 12.
The aviation industry, especially local charter operations, has been seeing an explosive growth in recent years, especially with developments in the mining and forestry sectors.
With the Ogle airport now an international one, the impact of aviation have become a critical link.
There are flights now to Suriname and Brazil; LIAT now lands at Ogle.
There are several flights daily to the Hinterland airstrips, including to Kaieteur Falls, Lethem, Mahdia and Ekereku.
It has spinoffs like taxi services, increase in aviation fuel demand, more security jobs and a demand for improved airstrips, in especially the hinterland area.
