A woman is being sought by the cops who continue to work vigorously in the hope of identifying the human remains that were found among the rubble in the aftermath of a mysterious blaze at an unoccupied house at Wales, West Bank Demerara (WBD) last Thursday.
Kaieteur News was told that the person being sought is a friend of a woman, who was taking care of the Lot 1 Goedverwagting, Wales property.
A few days before the blaze, the caretaker reportedly had a gathering at the unoccupied house with a few female friends. One of the friends was injured during the course of the lime and the “get together came to an end”.
Having received this information from neighbours, the cops are now trying to locate the female who was injured that night in an effort to eliminate the possibility that the remains might be that of the same person.
This newspaper was told that the caretaker has been located and was questioned but up to press time, there was no information on the whereabouts of the friend.
The body was burnt beyond recognition and was discovered in the bathroom area. Because of the extent of the burns, the gender of the remains could not have been determined. A Port Mortem examination has not yet been conducted. Fire fighters are still doing investigatins to determine the origin of the fire.
At the scene on Thursday, there were speculations that the remains might be that of a vagrant who managed to sneak his way into the two-storey concrete and wooden structure. However, after the fire, residents reported to the police that no one (homeless person) is missing.
The house had been unoccupied for a number of years and its owner Elizabeth Sattaur has no idea who the person might be. She was shocked when she received the news that an unidentified body was discovered among the rubble.
Fire fighters stumbled upon the remains when they were called to investigate a blaze at the property early Thursday.
