Dear Editor,
The United Republican Party (URP) wishes to join with Mr. Brian Tiwarie in his request to have former President Donald Ramotar answer the many question raised by the contractor. The URP believes that the questions posed by Mr. Tiwarie are legitimate and they warrant answers. The URP is also inclined to believe that the current administration will not pursue any of the blatant irregularities highlighted by Mr. Tiwarie. We have noticed that once the irregularities have been highlighted, even through the audits, this government seems content to shelve them and move on to announcing the next set of skulduggery. This behaviour is very telling and wearisome to the country.
Mr. Ramotar, however, is the one who started this latest issue by pointing out an irregularity of the APNU/AFC government, with regards to BK. The URP is therefore calling on Mr. Ramotar to return to his writing den and be at pains to address each and every one of the damming revelations made against him by Mr. Tiwarie. It should be noted that the URP contested the 2015 General elections because we were of the firm conviction that the PPP had lost their way and they were stealing and selling out the natural resources and possessions of Guyana, to the benefit of only a few cronies and family members.
The URP also notes that these accusations against Mr. Ramotar are coming only from one person with access to the irregularities that obtained in only the three short years of President Ramotar’s reign. We shudder to imagine the immensities of what would come to light should others ‘in the know’ come forward. The citizens of Guyana, including all races and political persuasions, knew that the PPP treated the wealth and properties of Guyana as though they belonged to those occupying Freedom House. We could well imagine (or could we?) the level of kleptocracy and the scale of national burglary which took place during the 12 previous years of the Jagdeo’s Presidency.
Editor, in the interest of nationalistic pride and with the knowledge of karma, it behooves all those – like Brian Tiwarie – who know of the atrocities done against this dear land of ours, to come forward and speak out. Take this opportunity to clear your consciences. Like Mr. Tiwarie, put race aside and put your country first. Mr. Tiwarie cannot be the only person with these kinds of damming information. There must be others who witnessed or have knowledge of practices that helped to bankrupt this nation. With all the billions of dollars in gold, bauxite, timber, rice and sugar that were exported, after 23 years, Guyana still remains a poverty-stricken nation. Where did all those billions go?
The URP thinks that President Granger should offer some kind of amnesty and witness protection to all the persons who would like to come forward and inform the Guyanese public of those who committed crimes against the state. The state should set up a hotline or a special office to allow folks to publicly or anonymously report on these matters. If those who have the information do not come forward, many persons will be allowed to escape with millions or even billions of dollars that belong to the Guyanese people. The URP also hopes that this administration will encourage further revelations by actively and publicly pursuing those fingered in these dastardly deeds.
Dr. Vishnu Bandhu
Leader URP
