Day three of the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) Digicel Senior National Squash Championships at the Georgetown Club on Friday saw action in the Men’s Open category with favorites, defending Champion Nyron Joseph, number one seed Alex Arjune and Kristian Jeffery all sitting in winner’s row after the completion of the night’s proceedings.
Yesterday’s action was divided into two parts and in the early session Javed Alli defeated Joe Mekdeci 11/6, 5/11, 11/7, 11/8 and Garfield Wiltshire beat Douglas De Groot 11/9, 11/5, 11/7 in the opening round of the Plate matches in the Veterans category.
In the first Men’s quarter finals Kristian Jeffrey proved too good for Raphael De Groot winning in straight sets 11/6, 11/5, 11/7.
Jason Ray Khalil sneaked past Regan Pollard in a close first game 11/8 and an even closer second game 11/9. By this time Pollard was totally exhausted but still fought hard before losing the third game 7/11.
Alex Arjoon would prove to be too strong for Javed Alli, winning comfortably 11/5, 11/6, 11/1.
In the final quarter final match for the evening, defending champion Nyron Joseph was up against Ben Mekdeci. Spectators were looking forward to a close game between these two players but on this day Nyron would prove to be too good. He was a straight set winner 11/2, 11/8, 11/8.
In the two veterans matches were played yesterday Javed Alli defeated Joe Mekdeci 11/6, 5/11, 11/7, 11/8 and Garfield Wiltshire beat Douglas De Groot 11/9, 11/5, 11/7
