Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry is expected to sum up the trial of Cyon Collier called ‘Picture Boy‘ who is indicted for the 2006 double murder of Victoria residents Ray Walcott called ‘Sugar’ and his brother Carl Andrews called ‘Alo’, on Tuesday.
Yesterday, Defence Attorney Lyndon Amsterdam and State Prosecutors, Tuanna Hardy, and Narissa Leander presented closing arguments before the Judge and the mixed panel of jurors.
In his submission, Amsterdam essentially highlighted what he deemed inconsistencies presented in the testimonies of the state witnesses.
But Ms. Hardy argued that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The Prosecutor held that the accused could not have debunked the testimonies of state witnesses when he led his defense, because the evidence against him is undeniably clear.
On Wednesday, in his unsworn statement the accused detailed to the court his account of the day in which the brothers lost their lives. He claimed that he was not even in the vicinity of the East Coast when the incident took place but he was in Linden.
This is Collier’s second retrial for the murder of Victoria, East Coast Demerara residents. The previous trials ended in hung juries.
According to reports the accused allegedly rode up on a motorcycle and began chatting with a group of domino players in Victoria before pulling out a gun and shooting at them. Walcott and Andrews sustained gunshot wounds.
Andrews was shot at least three times. He died as a result of perforation of the lungs from a single gunshot wound according to the post mortem report presented in court. Both brothers died as a result of the gunshot injuries.
The trial has been taking place for weeks before Justice Sewnarine Beharry and a mixed 12-member jury.
During the trial the prosecution called a number of witnesses, including Mohan Singh and Sherwin Marshall, who are said to be eyewitnesses to the crime.
