An official report containing the findings of an investigation into the working conditions at the Georgetown Mayor and City Council was presented to Town Clerk, Royston King, on Thursday.
The investigation was conducted by the Labour, Occupational Safety and Health Department at the Ministry of Social Protection. The working conditions at City Hall and all other council buildings were inspected. The investigations took place between April and June 2016.
The Council has been given until July 29, to rectify the problems which the report would have highlighted.
King stated that the Council will study the report and will take necessary action. “We will follow the guidance of the recommendations in the report.”
Regarding the investigation of businesses particularly in Georgetown, Chief Labour, Occupational Safety and Health Officer, Charles Ogle, said, “The inspections are routine, we carry them out on a regular basis.”
He stated that in some cases the department is informed of a situation through the press or an employee would call into the department. He noted that the entity usually receives reports on a weekly basis.
Ogle said that the job of the department is a work in progress as they continue to make recommendations to businesses to improve their working environment.
