Digicel Schools Football Championships Three Miles Sec. thump Bartica Sec. to set up Zone final date with Waramadong

Two goals either side of play was enough for Three Miles Secondary to silence home team Bartica Secondary when the two schools collided in the ongoing Digicel Schools Football Championships at the Bartica Community Centre ground, yesterday afternoon.
In blistering sunshine and watched by their Headmistress Ms. Carmen Williams and dozens of students, Bartica Secondary could not deter their rivals from Three Miles who came with a plan and executed same brilliantly to win the match 4-1.
Three Miles’ win sets up a potentially mouthwatering Zone Final clash with the exciting Waramadong on July 13th at the Bartica Sec. School ground.
Proceedings got underway with both teams seeking to stamp the early initiative by controlling play and while it was somewhat even, Three Miles gradually took control to the extent that they fired in the first goal in the 13th minute, Cobi Rhys Jones heading into the back of the nets on the end of a well directed cross from McQuaine Smith.
It was the perfect start for the visiting team which never looked back as they wrested full control of the match. The host team came close to equalizing in the 19th minute but the shot was calmly taken by the goalie.
On 25 minutes, Three Miles doubled their advantage when a 22 yards shot from DeAngelo Fiedtkou evaded the defenders and Bartica Secondary custodian, Marlon Cain.
But eight minutes later, Bartica Sec. injected some life in their bid for victory when they were able to reduce the deficit through a Lonzo Narine goal which brought his fellow students and teachers to their feet in delight.
With new life injected back into the attack of the Bartica side, Three Miles did not allow that level of confidence to gain any momentum as they restored their two goal cushion just before the half time whistle.
Excellent work up front by Smith saw him working his way into the area on the left side before squaring to Rockcliffe Parris in the six yards box; all he had to do was help the ball into the back of the nets in the 43rd minute with goalkeeper Cain already beaten at the first post.
The second half saw the home team putting up stiffer resistance even as Three Miles continued to dictate proceedings. Only one goal was scored and that was duly scored by the busy McQuaine Smith three minutes to full time.
Smith, who controlled the left side with speed and good control, was a constant threat to Bartica; for his hard work he put the icing on the cake with a well executed goal which he scored with a powerful left foot shot from 25 yards out.
The win for Three Miles earns them a shot at one of the most successful teams in the Digicel Schools Football Championship, Waramadong in the Zone Final in July 13th. Waramadong has reached the national finals on three occasions whilst reaching the final four on two occasions.
Both teams would no doubt have their eyes set on going all the way, but only one will be endowed with that honour. Who will it be? July 13th is the date that this question will be answered.
