As preparations continue for the 10th anniversary Guyana Cup Horserace meet. The organisers have decided to pour more resources in the staging of the event. Although a final figure has not been decided it is projected to increase by millions. Organized by The Jumbo Jet Businesses in Association with the Port Mourant Turf Club, the event is slated for Sunday 14th August at the Port Mourant Turf Club.
The mega horserace meet which is one of the largest locally organized sporting event in Guyana was originally tagged at $20M. However, with this being Guyana’s 50th Anniversary celebrations, the Jumbo Jet and Friends of Jumbo Jet have decided to throw a few million dollars more to make it a thoroughly Golden Jubilee anniversary Horserace spectacle.
With that said another major Sponsor, BM Soat Auto Sales has once again rolled on board early. The company, which has been with the event for a number of years, will once again be having a number of bargains and giveaways on race day. Details of which will be released later. Already other sponsors on board are Jameel Bar and entertainment Lounge on the East Coast of Demerara, the Muneshwar Store on The East Coast Demerara and the Hyper Malt beverage company.
A number of incentives have so far been announced with the winning horses in the A class, the three year old event and the two year old races collecting an extra $500,000, $400,000 and $200,000 bonuses respectively. The jockeys riding the respective animals in those events will all ride away with an extra $50,000 bonus.
Eight races are slated for the day and so far most of the top Horses in the country have begun training for the day’s programme.
The feature “A” and lower event will this year fetch $1M more money than last year with the winning amount tagged at $4M and the Guyana Cup Trophy from a total package of $8M over 1600M. The other placers in that event will also be handsomely rewarded.
In the Co-feature 1600M event for 3 yrs. old horses, bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies, the organizers have put up a mouthwatering $2M and trophy.
The Two year old event for West Indies Bred horses which has its first prize tagged at $1M and trophy, will be run over 1000M. The horses running in the E class and lower event also has a lucrative $1M first prize money available over 1300M.
The G3 and lower race is also a 1300M gallop with the winner getting an encouraging $700,000 and trophy. The H and lower 1400M race has a winning pocket of $500,000 and trophy.
The animals classified J and K and lower will race for $350,000 and trophy over 1100M.
The L class 1000M race has a winning purse of $250,000 and trophy.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers and Trophy Stall.
