Georgetown based Vanguard Volleyball Club emerged as the champions of the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) Female Volleyball Tournament on Sunday last which was held in observance of Olympic Day.
The champions served and spiked their way to overall victory in a tournament that also attracted Linden Central, Spikelands, the Guyana Defense Force, Plaisance, and St Cuthberts Mission.
Linden Central took the runner-up position. Competing against Linden Central in the final, Vanguard prevailed 2 sets to 1 after the teams were tied one game each and playing some entertaining volleyball.
The Linden team was visibly tired in the third set which opened the way for Vanguard to breeze to victory. The young female team from Plaisance Volleyball Club was awarded the trophy for Most Improved Team and Ms Nikita Samaroo of Vanguard was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament apart from also being adjudged the Best Setter and Best Server.
Vanguard players, Ms Odile Broomes and Ms Bowman were declared the Best Receiver and Best Spiker, respectively. The activity was sponsored by the Guyana Olympic Association.
