Three men are scheduled to appear in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court today in relation to the murder of porkknocker Shawn McDonald, whose bound and battered body was found in a metal container at Kurupung two Mondays ago.
The suspects were captured separately in various parts of the interior earlier in the week.
One was arrested at Kurupung Mountain Foot and another at an area known as Pappy Show Landing.
Kaieteur News understands that the suspects have implicated themselves in the killing. Initial reports police received suggested that Mc Donald, 43, was slain after a woman complained that he had tried to rape her.
But the suspects have reportedly now claimed that Mc Lean had destroyed three hammocks in their camp. This allegedly happened after one of the men had a misunderstanding with Mc Donald’s female friend.
The dispute had escalated with the destruction of the hammocks and the men then beat and tied Mclean, and placed him in a metal container, where he later succumbed.
A post mortem showed that he sustained multiple injuries, including wounds to the head, a broken shoulder, and a deep cut to the mouth that reportedly caused him to suffocate on his own blood.
Police were told that McDonald was seen drinking and brandishing a cutlass at individuals at Kurupung. He was then seen heading towards his camp.
Police were also allegedly informed that three men were later seen putting the porkknocker in a metal container.
Around 06.00 hrs last week Monday, a woman went to Mc Donald’s camp to check on him and found the miner’s body in a container. The police were then notified.
McDonald resided at Amelia’s Ward, Linden, and was the eldest of four siblings. He had worked in the interior for several years.
