Forty players have been shortlisted by the Guyana Football Federation’s Technical team following trails on Saturday last as preparations for this year’s Caribbean Football Union’s Men’s Under-17 tournament next month, kicked off.
Last Saturday’s session was abandoned at the Guyana Defence Force ground due to heavy rain, the venue remains the same for tomorrow’s continuation from 13:00hrs. The GFF has informed that the alternate venue is the National Track and Field Facility, Leonora.
Tomorrow’s session will also include six players from the Bartica Football Association (BFA), who were unavoidably absent on Saturday last. According to GFF’s Technical Development officer, Mr Lyndon France, last week saw 72 players participating in the trials but due to the inclement weather, it was abandoned on Saturday.
The national squad, which will consist of 26 players, will be finalized tomorrow after the trails and encampment will begin immediately. The team is scheduled to depart Guyana for the USVI on July 13, next.
Guyana contest Group 4 along with host USVI, Jamaica and Antigua and Barbuda. The junior Golden Jaguars will play the Junior Reggae Boyz in their first match on July 15 at the Lionel Roberts Stadium from 14:30hrs.
The second and third matches are set for July 17 against the host team from 17:00hrs with their final game against Antigua and Barbuda commencing from 14:30hrs, two days later.
