A former Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) driver was jailed for three years after he was found guilty of causing the death of a 12-year-old Ezekiel Murray by dangerous driving.
On April 10, 2015, Clyde Barker, 32, of 244 Second Street, Grove, East Bank Demerara drove a motor lorry and slammed into Murray also called ‘Sonny’. The lad sustained several injuries about his body.
During her ruling, Magistrate Fabayo Azore said that the Prosecutor was able to prove all elements of the offence before the court. The Magistrate said that she disbelieved the story told by Barker during the trial and relied on the case of the prosecution.
She said that based on evidence led in court, it was clear that speeding caused the accident that claimed a young life.
Barker’s driver’s licence was also suspended for three years.
