With this slated to be the biggest and best Guyana Cup Horserace meet so far in recognition of a decade since the event was first held. Sponsors have begun to roll in as massive preparations continue.
The $20M mega horserace meet, compliments of the Port Mourant Turf Club and the Jumbo Jet Businesses, is slated for Sunday 14th August at the Port Mourant Turf Club, beginning at 12:00 hrs.
With Guyana also celebrating its 50th year of Independence, a number of sponsors are making their pitch early to be a part of the mega event.
The Guyana Cup is by far the largest sporting activity in the country and the ‘Sport of Kings’ usually attracts large purses.
Joining the list of sponsors coming on board early to be a part of the activity is the Jameel Bar and entertainment Lounge on the East Coast of Demerara. The entity which is sponsoring an horserace event for the first time is happy to be on board. Speaking at the simple handing over ceremony which was held at the business entity’s Atlantic Garden Location, Mr Jameel stated that after the Guyana Cup 2015, his business place was flooded with a very large crowd even though he is located on the East Coast. He had no hesitation to be a part of this year event, even though he is located a good distance away on the East Coast. Already on board is the Muneshwar Store on The East Coast Demerara and the Hyper Malt beverage community.
So far a number of new initiatives have been announced with the winning horses in the A class event taking home an unbelievable $500,000 extra, the winner of the three year old event gets $400,000 while the horses placing first in the two year old race goes home with a $200,000 bonus. The jockeys piloting the animals first across the finish line in those events will all ride away with an extra $50,000.
Most of the top Horses in the country have already given an indication to be a part of the day’s programme.
The feature event is for animals classified “A” and lower with a mouthwatering winning prize of $4M and the Guyana Cup Trophy from a total package of $8 M in total over 1600M. The other placers in that event will also be handsomely rewarded.
In the Co-feature 1600M event for 3 yrs. old horses, bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies, the organizers have put up a mouthwatering $2M and trophy.
The Two year old event for West Indies Bred horses which has its first prize tagged at $1M and trophy, will be run over 1000M. The horses running in the E class and lower event also has a lucrative $1M first prize money available over 1300M.
The G3 and lower race is also a 1300M gallop with the winner getting an encouraging $700,000 and trophy. The H and lower 1400M race has a winning pocket of $500,000 and trophy.
The animals classified J and K and lower will race for $350,000 and trophy over 1100M.
The L class 1000M race has a winning purse of $250,000 and trophy.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers and Trophy Stall.
The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
