Alpha United’s Head Coach Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover said that he is disappointed in his side’s loss to Slingerz in the champion of champions match that crowned the Stag Elite League overall champions on Sunday night last at the Leonora Track and Field facility.
Dover, who has shaped the team into an institution that, has already etched its name into the history books of Guyana, dominating for many years, believed that they {Alpha} dominated the match for long periods but lost out in the end after a lapse in defence.
“Very excellent performance by Alpha United tonight, we controlled a good portion of the game, created numerous chances, failed to concert and was on the receiving end tonight. Very disappointed in terms of not coming out as the champion, tonight.”
The long serving Coach noted that it was an elementary mistake at the back that cost them the game and the championship.
“For them {Slingerz} it is a satisfying end to the season given the fact that they would have dominated throughout and who can blame them for being elated at moment given the fact how the league has gone for them. Bu for us, we really felt the disappointment.”
During this welcome break, Dover informed that there will be a forensic analysis of the team’s showing throughout the entire league in order to have an appreciation of how they did whilst making the necessary changes going forward. (Franklin Wilson)
