According to the Mayor of Georgetown, Patricia Chase-Green, councillors have not been looking to initiate projects that will advance the development of their respective constituencies.
Only four councillors have come forward with projects aimed at developing and improving their areas. The Mayor stated that those four councillors are Malcolm Ferreira, Monica Thomas, Sophia Whyte and Winston Harding.
She said that instead of going behind other Council members’ backs to investigate their personal lives and that of their family members the councillors should be pushing for projects such as cleaning drains and improving roads or bridges in their communities.
Councillor Harding, she noted, has already initiated the project of cleaning the East Ruimveldt canal.
“There is nothing else; no one else has brought anything for us to look at.”
“It is unfair that after three months, you find time to do idleness instead of moving the city forward. None of them has said to me so far, and they have all the negatives to say, but they have not said to me positively how we can move the city forward.
“None of them have asked for the 2016 budget, a budget that they have to be a part of spending.”
The Mayor continued that she told the Town Clerk that they need to hold another workshop so that the councillors can fully understand what their roles are and how they could move the city forward.
“You’re representing a constituency, you have to be part of something, but no they’re not there for that, they’re there to tear each other down and I will not be a part of that.”
“If the majority of the council is willing to work and move forward, we’re going to move the city forward, those who have reservations and can’t move on; well the council has to move on.”
