Dear Editor;
The impudence, nerve and disrespect of the Georgetown Municipality is mind-boggling and unbelievable to say the very least. It is unbelievable that the Mayor and Councillors of the City of Georgetown, without having their books audited for over two decades, without presenting a budget for 2016 to the citizenry of the capital and with only half of the year completed has just declared itself bankrupt for the umpteenth time and is requesting a financial bailout from central government.
But they can’t have it both ways. On one hand in order to carry on with the scandalous parking meter contract they are ignoring the concerns and senior government functionaries and pressing ahead regardless, whilst on the other hand, cap in hand they are expecting to be rescued by the same government.
But here is the real issue. How much longer will the government keep pumping valuable financial resources into this bottomless pit, before they decide to cashier the Council’s Chief Administrative and Chief Financial Officers? Had this been a corporate entity, a private sector company or a well run state enterprise those two persons would have been long gone.
But at City Hall, senior persons are answerable to themselves,and are allowed to obliterate, wipe out and break up this institution and then walk way freely with their pockets overflowing.
This is a crime against the citizenry and the state. This is a the crime of betrayal against our beloved country and should be dealt with as such.
To add insult to injury the folks at City Hall are claiming that the money that they are seeking from Central Government is for cleaning up the city for the Golden Jubilee of Independence.
Utter nonsense! The Council is obligated to clean the city, Jubilee or not, as this is what citizens pay their property rates and other fees for, not for them to squander it on their friends.
The government needs to address the gargantuan corruption that exits there, the nepotism and cronyism and the incompetence.
The dishonest, devious and disreputable senior administrators must no longer be propped up but rather sent packing if we are to rescue our capital from total annihilation.
