A 28-year-old man was jailed for three years and fined over $2M after he was found guilty of
trafficking in marijuana yesterday, when he appeared before the Chief Magistrate in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Andel Solomon, of Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, was convicted by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan for having 1 kg grams of cannabis in his possession on April 14, for the purpose of trafficking at the aforementioned village. He was als0 fined $2. 7 M.
During her ruling, the Magistrate said that she was satisfied with the case put forward by Police Prosecutor, Neville Jeffers. She said that she was satisfied that Solomon had knowledge and possession (control and custody) of the illicit substance.
When asked by the Magistrate if he had anything to say in mitigation, Solomon maintained that the marijuana which was found in a haversack did not belong to him.
