The race to championship honours continues to hold much interest in the city when the penultimate round of matches in the Georgetown Football Association / Stag Premier League ended on Thursday night last at the GFC ground.
Riddim Squad and Police have continued their neck to neck tussle for the 3rd and 4th places by taking full points in their respective matches. Riddim Squad thumped Camptown 3-1 while The Guyana Police Force ran riot against Flamingo with a 6-0 win.
Amos Ramsay sent Riddim Squad ahead in the 13th minute and one minute later the advantage was doubled when Sceyon Hope found the back of the nets. Camptown pulled one back in the 27th minute through an Anthony Sancho goal as the half ended with Riddim Squad holding a slight one goal advantage.
The Mocha based Riddim Squad did not leave it too long in the second half to seal full points, it took them eight minutes to restore their two goal advantage and virtually seal the match when Teon Jones nailed a 53rd minute goal.
In the night’s opening match, Police were too hot for the Flamingo side whom they trounced 6-0, the score line could have easily been more devastating were it not for a number of missed chances.
For the Lawmen, there were doubles each for Leorne Charles (11, 17) and Athio Wallace in the 52nd and 54th minute. Netting one apiece were Rawle Hayes in the 47th minute and Quincy Holder in the 67th minute.
An enthralling final day is in the making when the final four matches will all be contested at the GFC ground on July 3rd. (Franklin Wilson)
