Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ National Futsal Competition…
Sparta Boss, the reigning champions roared into the semi-finals of the National Playoffs following two impressive victories on Day One of the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal Competition which opened on Wednesday
night at the National Cultural Centre Tarmac.
The champs looked back to their best and it will take a special performance from Wisroc to impede their progress to the final tonight at the same venue.
In their first encounter, they dispatched Stewartville Gunners by a 4-1 margin with Gregory Richardson, Dennis Edwards, Sheldon Shepherd and Roberto Osbourne the players on target, while Dwayne Charles responded for the losers.
Channel 9 Warriors also recorded notable performances in their two encounters with wins over Shwostoppers and a strong North Ruimveldt unit and seems to be a good bet to make it to the final which would be a dream matchup should Sparta Boss make it to the championship game.
Sparta Boss had beaten them in the Georgetown final in a close encounter. The two Linden teams also showed good form despite surviving some close battles and they may have a say in this year’s national playoffs.
Team 25 is led by the wily Collie Hercules and he has been inspirational in his display, while Wisroc has already shown that they are a tough unit to beat. The last four should provide fans with two exciting encounters, especially with the Georgetown versus Linden scenario a reality.
The two communities have had a long history of grudge in sports over the years and tonight’s showdown promises to be no different.
