The race for the Georgetown Football Association / Stag Premier League title intensified following wins by the front runners, Western Tigers and Santos on Wednesday night at the Georgetown Football Club ground.
Randolph Wagner’s brace propelled Western Tigers to their 4-0 win over Northern Rangers while a hat-trick and a double from Shawn Mohamed and Ryan ‘Bum Bum’ Hackett carved out a 6-1 triumph for Santos in their clash with Beacon.
Northern Rangers held their own for the first 37 minutes of the match before the Tigers netted the first of their goals which came via a beautifully taken header from Wagner on the end of a corner kick.
Wagner rose above the Rangers defense and goalkeeper Enkosi Whyte to power his shot into the back of the nets in the 37th minute. One minute to the half time whistle, Michael Pedro doubled the advantage.
Two more goals were to come Western Tigers’ way in the second half as they dominated their rivals. Delon Kelly in the 76th minute and Wagner again one minute later sealed another solid win for the Tigers.
Santos was too hot for Beacon FC to handle as they ran away 6-1 winners. Santos wasted little time in stamping their authority on proceedings, scoring in just the second minute of the game, Mohamed netting his first. One minute later it was Hackett’s turn to double the lead.
Six minutes later, Dellon David got into the act as Santos raced to a 3-0 advantage in under ten minutes of play as they overwhelmed the hapless Beacon side. Hackett completed his double in the 24th minute and thereafter, there was a lull in the scoring until after half time.
Three minutes after the break, Mohamed sent his side further ahead with his second goal with the score reading 5-0. Sixty minutes on, Mohamed fired in his third and Santos’ sixth of the match. Beacon was able to pull one back for consolation sake in the 69th minute thanks to Steve Edwards strike. Two more matches were scheduled to play last night.
