Bartica has recently been promoted to township status and has elected a Mayor,

Consequently, officials of the Town have been engaged in a variety of activities in acknowledgement of Guyana Jubilee of Independence and those activities will continue with the ‘Bartica Mayor’s Caricom Athletic Road Race scheduled for Saturday July 2 from 15:00hrs.
Officials explained that the race was organized to provide valuable activity for athletes in schools and clubs in the Gold Mining Town and its environs. Athletes will compete in several categories including the U-13, 15, 17, 19, Open and Masters and outstanding performers will receive trophies and medals for their efforts.
Participants will convene at Agatash for the start of the race and proceed into 2nd Avenue then east into First Street and South into 1st Avenue to finish at the entrance of the Bartica NDC Office.
The race is the brainchild of Mayor Gifford Marshall and coordinated by Ras Aaron Blackman. Mr. Blackman also said that those athletes that have won medals and trophies at an earlier meet, the Rockville Hotel Promotions 4 miles road race, will receive their awards during the presentation ceremony for this race.
Participants are asked to assemble at the Bartica Community Centre at 14:00hrs to be transported to the starting point. Organizers are also appealing to members of the corporate community for their patronage to ensure a successful event.
Meanwhile, registration forms can be uplifted at the NDC Office while registration will close on July 1st. Athletes not residing in Bartica are also invited to participate in the 2 ½ mile race.
