An Airstrip was on Monday commissioned in the village of Surama. Surama Village is a
small Amerindian community of the Makushi people living in the north Rupununi in Region Nine.
Tasked with cutting the ceremonial ribbon was founder of the Village, Robert Allicock, the father of Vice President and Minister of Indigenous People, Sydney Allicock.
The Commissioning incidentally occurred on Robert Allicock’s 84th birth anniversary.
The occasion was one that was graced by a number of officials including Junior Infrastructure Minister, Annette Ferguson, Special Assistant to the President, Major General Retired, Joe Singh, among others. A number of villagers including school children were also in attendance.
