Viola DeSouza now has to fend for herself and three school age children after her reputed husband
died by accident on April 21, last.
Reports are that Sew Persaud was standing on the road outside the Diamond Diagnostic Centre when minibus PFF 9802 driven by Christopher Bose hit him.
Persaud, who resided at 265 Third Street Grove, East Bank Demerara, was the sole breadwinner of his home.
According to his still mourning reputed wife yesterday, Persaud left home around 09:00 hours that day for the purpose of going to Georgetown. He had also planned to visit the Diamond Diagnostic Centre for a routine health check.
The woman said that she received a call around 14:30 hours that her reputed husband was struck down by a minibus in the vicinity of the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. She was told that he was killed.
She said that much information was not given to her about Persaud’s death during the telephone call.
DeSouza said that she rushed down to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where she saw her husband’s lifeless body. He had sustained multiple injuries, she reported yesterday.
The matter was reported to the Grove Police Station.
The driver of the minibus informed Police that Persaud fell in front of his bus. This is, according to DeSouza, who also related yesterday that the driver claimed that he was unable to avoid running over
Persaud after he fell.
According to DeSouza, it has been two months since she has been seeking justice for her reputed husband, but is unable to receive any.
The woman said that she visited the Grove Police Station on two occasions where she was told that the file was sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). She claimed that she then visited the DPP’s office and was told that no file for the matter has been found.
Yesterday, Kaieteur News contacted the Grove Police Station about the matter and was told that the Police Officer who is investigating the matter was at a meeting.
The Office of the DPP informed that while a request was made for the file it has thus far not been forthcoming.
In the meantime, DeSouza continues to mourn the loss of her husband. She disclosed that she is unable to work because of a severe lung infection. The woman said that she has been receiving assistance from her neighbours since the death of her husband to help with the upbringing of her children who are 10, 12 and 15 years old. (Dionne George)
