Set for Sunday 14 August with over $20M on offer
It has been a decade since the Annual Guyana Cup Horserace meet was first staged in Guyana by the Jumbo jet Business Establishment. With the special achievement the organisers have promised to make this year’s activity the
biggest and best so far. Especially since Guyana is celebrating its 50th Independence Anniversary.
With that preparations have already begin for the 10th annual event.
The mega event is organised by the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Racing Stables in collaboration with the Port Mourant Turf Club and is arguably one of the biggest sporting events in Guyana.
The event which has eight races carded for the day is set for Sunday 14th August at the Port Mourant Turf Club, beginning at 12:00 hrs.
The Guyana Cup by far attracts the largest prize monies on offer for any sport in the country to date. Thus the Jumbo Jet businesses and friends are offering big winnings for the races with over $20M in cash trophies and other goodies up for grabs.
Once again the feature event is for animals classified “A” and lower with a mouthwatering winning prize of $4M and the Guyana Cup Trophy from a total package of $8M over 1600M. The other placers in that event will also be handsomely rewarded.
In the Co-feature 1600M event for 3yrs old horses, bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies, the organizers have put up another delectable prize, $2.M and trophy will go to the winner.
The Two year old event for West Indies Bred horses, which has its first prize tagged at $1M and trophy, will be run over 1000M.
The E class and lower 1300M event will see the winner racing away with the $1M top prize and trophy on offer.
The G3 and lower race is also a 1300M event where the winning horse will run away with $700,000 and trophy.
Horses classified H and lower will have an opportunity to race for a winning pocket of $500,000 and trophy over 1400M. There is an event for animals classified J and K and lower with a pole position taking of $350,000 over 1100M.
The final event on the day’s card is for L class horses over 1000M with the winning horse guaranteed a top prize of $250,000 and trophy.
According to organizer Nazrudeen ‘Jumbo Jet” Mohammed Jnr a number of new features and initiatives will be added to the event this year as race day draws closer.
The top Jockey along with the runner up, the top stable and champion trainer will all be presented with trophies and other incentives compliments of the organizers and Trophy Stall.
The event will be held under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
