Albion, GCC Bourda and Providence Stadium
Statistician Charwayne Walker notes that, The records will show that Antigua and Barbuda hosted One Day International Matches at the Antigua Recreational Ground (ARG) and the Vivian Richards Stadium. Grenada hosted ODIs at the Queens Park in St. George’s and the National Stadium but Guyana’s three venues stands alone: Albion Sports Complex, GCC Bourda and the Providence Stadium.
Strange enough Guyana’s Albion Sports Complex was the venue where the inaugural One Day International was hosted in the West Indies 39 years ago March 6th 1977. West Indies won by 4 wickets. Barbadian Desmond Leo Haynes featured three unbeaten centuries, 133 not out verses Australia 1984 at Albion, 145 not out verses New Zealand at Albion 1985 and 152 not out verses India 1989 at GCC Bourda is still never matched in an ODI in Guyana. So is Pakistani Shahid Afridi 7 wickets for 12 runs against the West Indies at Providence in 2013. Not forgetting Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga’s helmet-trick against South Africa in the 2007 World Cup at Providence National Stadium.
Please find below ODIs played in Guyana from 1977 -2013.
