Former T&T leg-spinner Ganesh Mohabir followed up his 2-14 on Saturday with 4-14 to spin the visiting Lawyers team to a four-wicket win against a Guyana Lawyers team at Bourda in a feature t20 game on Sunday.
The 58-year-Mohabir with 100 First-Class wickets in Shell Shield cricket, bowled four frugal overs to restrict a team which included players from both Guyana and T&T to 85 all out. Left-arm spinner Charles Ramson (2-7) and Amir Mohamed (2-8) supported Mohabir.
Led by West Indies Lawyers players Sanjeev Datadin, one of three Guyanese in the Regional side, the Guyanese side slumped from 34-0 to lose 10 wickets for 51 runs after Low West (16) and Ganesh Hira (18) give their team a solid start before both were deceived and stumped of Mohabir.
Dennis Paul, who hit Mohabir on top of the ‘old’ Kenny Whishart Stand in his 10, was the only other batsman to reach double figures.
But the T&T team recovered from a terrible start to reach 85-6 with Mohamed (28*) and Sachi Seecharran (27) adding 63 for the sixth wicket to see their team to victory.
When the T&T team in reply collapsed to 19-5 with pacer Lyndon Amsterdam (3-7) ripping out a couple of batsmen. When former Guyana U-17 off-spinner Ricardo Devers removed West Indies Lawyers player Ramson for two with his second ball, the Trinis were in dire straits and seemingly heading a crushing defeat.
But that was not to be as Mohamed and Seecharran embarked in ‘operation rebuild’ with an array of attacking shots. Mohamed dumped Devers for six and Seecharran deposited West for another maximum before elegantly cover-driving Ganesh Hira for a glorious boundary to bring up the 50 in the 10th over.
Seecharran was bowled by Amsterdam with two required for victory but by then it was too little too late.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, under a full Moon over Bourda and a few lights in the Rohan Kanhai stand the Guyana Lawyers team defeated their counterparts from T&T by 13 runs in their t20 encounter.
The Guyanese Lawyers batted first and were restricted to 102-7 off 20 overs.
The visitors began their reply on a traditional slow track and reached 89-7 when their overs expired. (Sean Devers)
