Four armed and masked bandits escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash and gold jewelry after robbing and terrorizing a Corentyne man and his family in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
The man, who wished to remain anonymous, manages a popular service station on the Corentyne.
According to the man’s son, whose only name was given as Ally, he stated that at around 3:45 am, he awoke after hearing loud screams coming from outside his bedroom.
“When I heard the screams, I knew it was bandits so I called my uncle and told him that there are bandits in the house; to send help”.
Ally added that moments after making the call, one of the bandits kicked in his bedroom door.
“One of them come in and told me not to move and he said, ‘Take me to the money’”.
He said that they then ventured into his parents’ room where the bandits proceeded to ransack and remove whatever valuables they could find. They left approximately five minutes after.
Ally said that two of the suspects brandished small guns while the others were unarmed. One of the bandits stood guard while the other three carried out the robbery.
Meanwhile, Ally’s father who was injured during the ordeal stated that he was outside preparing to venture to the Masjid when the bandits struck. He said that he opened the back door to retrieve something from outside and one of the bandits struck him to the head with one of the guns.
The bandits escaped on foot through the backyard.
No arrests have been made and investigations continue.
