On a hot Friday morning yesterday, the students of the Huston Secondary School on the East Bank of Demerara made a contribution to former Student Clive Atwell who has to undergo a brain surgery in Trinidad &
Mrs. Atwell presents the portrait to a student as the Head Teacher, Jermaine Haynes, Atwell and another student (displaying two of Atwell’s belts) share the moment.

On October 24 at the Giftland Mall during the ninth round of his WBC FECARBOX Lightweight title fight against Dexter Gonzales, Atwell fainted and was diagnosed with bleeding in the brain.
The assembly began with a prayer and the pledge of Guyana and School and Atwell was introduced by the Head Mistress Ms. Jackie as a former student of Houston High (2000- 2004) and World rated Boxer.
The 27 year-old Atwell, the National Featherweight and Lightweight Champion and holder of the WBC CABOFE Super Lightweight and Featherweight titles, gave a motivational speech to the students. He reminded the students of the importance to be obedient to their teachers and parents and gave them 11 keys that can contribute to them being successful individuals.
Atwell told the youths that they must have passion for that which burns within them, adding, with good work ethics you can stand out.
Good body Language and being open minded and approach life with a positive attitude was noted. Atwell told the eager students to be coachable, be humble and allow people’s idea and ideologies to help make them a better person.
Positive energy, putting in a good effort, being prepared by studying the field, subject or area of interest and then putting their best foot forward were keys to success said Atwell, a humanitarian who is also a Preacher with the Methodist church
“Have respect for time. The time you waste will never be regained, so we need to respect our time and other people’s time. Friends can make or break you. Keep the positive friends and let loose the bad friends and individuals that bring negativity to your life,” said the Boxer who needs $5Million for surgery, airfare and after surgery care.
The Headmistress thanked Clive for his motivational talk and encouraged the children to remember his words.
Altavi Atwell presented a portrait of her husband to the students after she reminding them to remain focus, work and study hard and know that no matter where they are now or the situation they are in they can make a difference, they can be someone great.

‘We are very glad we can help in whatever way we can and we know that Clive will be on top once again. We trust that he will continue to keep his faith and trust in God now and always. We thank him for his word of encouragement and motivation and look forward to working with him in the future in having more motivational talks because this is what the children need,” the Head Teacher said.
“They need to see that they can achieve great things once they are focused and dedicated. I trust more people will continue to support this remarkable young man during this time,” she added.
Jermaine Haynes, who attended school with Atwell, contacted the school and suggested that something be done to assist the Boxer. The headmistress agreed and spoke to the teachers and students who responded positively. The donation came from teachers, students and canteen staff. Mr. & Mrs. Jermaine Haynes also gave a contribution.
Atwell can be contacted on telephone number 642-9961 and has opened an account at Republic Bank number 242-970.2 for well wishers to make contributions. Today from 14:30hrs to 15:30hrs a telethon will be held for Atwell on the Payless Power Hour on NCN.
