All the players in the Guyana Amazon Warriors team except Adam Zampa and Martin Guptill, who will
join them in St Kitts, should arrive in Guyana by Monday when they will begin a six-day camp in preparation for the 2016 Hero CPL.
The camp commences with a morning fitness assessment session from 10:00hrs and ‘nets’ in their afternoon from noon at the Providence Stadium. The players will be engaged in Gym work at the Fitness 53 which is owned by former Guyana Amazon Warriors Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan who will soon depart for Trinidad to represent defending Champions Trinbago Knight Riders this year.
The Warriors play three practice games against players picked by Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) selectors. The GCB team will include players from the Warriors squad which plays in St Kitts on June 30 before travelling to Trinidad for the next game on July 2.
They then return to Guyana for their next four matches at Providence on July 7 (v Jamaica Tallawahs), July 9 (v St Kitts & Nevis Patriots), July 10 (v Trinbago Knight Riders) and July 12 (v St Lucia Zouks). All matches commence at 19:00hrs except the Saturday game against the Patriots which is a day game and starts at noon.
The Warriors which includes leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, unlucky not to be in the West Indies team during the Guyana and St Kitts leg of the Tri-Nation ODI series, will play the practice games at Providence on June 23, 24 & 25. The first two will commence at 18:00hrs while the final game will start at noon.
CPL as a part of its overall cricket development programme for Guyana will include five U-19 players including West Indies U-19 Captain Shemron Hetymer who is in the 17-man squad, West Indies U-19 Vice-Skipper Kemo Paul, his teammate Tevin Imlach, Akysha Persaud and Berbician, Romario Maniram, who will be involved in all aspects of preparations.
However, the four players will not travel with the team while the Guyana based Franchise has selected ICC Americas U-19 pacer Muhammad Ali-Khan who, along with Hetymer are members of the Warriors’ squad and are eligible for selection in the tournament.
Skipper Martin Guptill, Sohail Tanvir, Chris Lynn and Adam Zampa are the overseas Internationals in the Warriors squad. According to Operations Manager of the Guyana Amazon Warriors, Omar Khan, the first batch of players will arrive here on June 19.
He also informed that the WICB has released their contracted players for the first four CPL matches before those selected for the Regional team in the India four-Test series in the Caribbean which starts in Antigua from July 21.
The Warriors will be coached by former West Indies all rounder Roger Harper with his deputy being Esuan Crandon, coach of Back-to-back Regional First-Class defending champions Guyana. Crandon, a former Guyana pacer, was recently accredited as a level 3 Coach.
