Just over two weeks after the Intermediate level players engaged in fierce competition, officials of the
Guyana Association of Scrabble Players (GASP) have organized another tournament, the Insurance Brokers Guyana Ltd open scrabble tournament at the Herdmanston Lodge, Queenstown, Sunday, June 26.
This is the arena for the big boys (and girls) and keen rivalry is anticipated from former National Champion, Fred Collins, Moen Gafoor and James Krakowsky among others. The females will also vie for championship honours and names such as National Champion, Abigail McDonald, Yvonne Murray (who won the just concluded intermediate championship), Grace Carter and Ruby Cummings among others will enter the tournament with high ambitions.
The registration period commences at 09:30hrs and clocks will be started at 10:15hrs. Those members with boards and clocks are asked to bring them along to facilitate an anticipated large turnout. An admission fee of $500 will be collected during the registration period and participants are urged to arrive at the venue early enough to conform to this prerequisite.
There will be six games played with a break for lunch after the first three games and players will vie for trophies donated by Insurance Brokers Guyana Ltd. The first three finishers will win prizes as well as the player forming the most bingos. The organizers are also inviting young, interested players to come and experience the feel of competitive Scrabble.
