Competing on the Pro circuit, Guyanese cyclist Geron Williams warmed up ahead of the senior leg of the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) National Championships with two wins last weekend in New Jersey.
The Foundation rider chalked up wins in Pitman and Riverton on a weekend that saw his team doing well in other events; Quinten Winkel winning the Curaçao National Time Trials and Road Race while Adderlyn Cruz placed 2nd in the Purgatory Road Race.
Williams won the 7th annual Bob Riccio Memorial 50-mile Tour de Pitman on Saturday last, an event that saw cyclists from all across the region competing around the 3-mile circuit. This race was held in memory of Bob Riccio who died of brain cancer in 2008, a cycling legend from Pitman who was responsible for getting half of South Jersey involved in racing.
On Sunday, Williams, who is already back home ahead of the National Championships Time Trials for senior set for next Saturday and the Road Race on Sunday next, pedaled to victory in the Historic Riverton Criterium, a Technical ’35 miles dash’ around an ‘L’ shaped course in Riverton New Jersey.
The race was contested on a 0.8mile, 6 turn, technical flat and fast course at average speed of 29.5 mph.
Williams along with eth likes of Raynauth ‘Obeah Man’ Jeffrey and Scott Savory already home after competing on the USA circuit will be joined by others for what is anticipated to be a star studded field battling for bragging rights as the best local rider.
