It appears that growing questions about the operations at Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) have spurred Myrna Pitt, Chief Executive Officer (CEO)’s decision to leave the entity.
Yesterday, Chairman, Hamilton Green, disclosed that Pitt submitted a letter on Tuesday to signal her intentions not to seek a renewal of her contract which expired since last month.
Pitt, who has served as CEO of that critical government agency for over a decade, is expected to leave by July 13.
Green disclosed that indeed members of the Board of Directors have been expressing “disquiet” over the performance of Pitt, specifically with regards to the timely submission of information that had been requested.
“I think we had overcome that hurdle. The authority is moving in another direction. The Board is preparing to hear a major presentation this month end on the way forward. As you know we have many schemes, and many unfinished infrastructure and ongoing works. We must have a clear vision and plan going forward.”
That plan is to be submitted to Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan, before it goes to Cabinet for considerations.
CH&PA is under pressure to perform with almost 25,000 applications on file for a house lot or the government-built turn-key homes.
The new administration, on assuming office last year, found several questionable transactions including with the sale of lands on the East Bank Demerara to private developers.
Board members have expressed anger after finding evidence that Pitt and her team failed to pay attention to the developers to ensure they meet deadlines and conditions.
The management of the turn-key homes at Perserverance, behind Providence, also turned out to be a disaster with government now forced to spend millions more to repair the structures.
There were evidence of poor management at the so-called “Remigrant Scheme” at Providence and how hundreds of millions were spent for infrastructural works.
Several other top officials of CH&PA were also under fire for performance, including Deputy CEO, Denise King-Tudor and head of the Remigrant Scheme, Andre Ally.
CH&PA has been dogged by corruption claims.
Yesterday, Green said that he has asked the Ministry of Communities to start advertising for top posts at CH&PA.
