Mabaruma Settlement suffered mixed fortunes in the 50th Independence Anniversary Beach Volleyball Tournament which was played at the Mabaruma (Region 1) recently.
The victorious Mabaruma Settlement and Wauna teams pose for a photo op following their wins in the respective categories.
Playing in the Men’s Division, Mabaruma Settlement defeated Baribanobo, while their female team went down to Wauna.
The two-day tournament was sponsored by former national players and brothers Richard, Colin and Leon Gilkes in collaboration with the Guyana Volleyball Federation and the Regional Administration of Region 1.
Among the teams that participated were Mabaruma Settlement, Baribanobo, Wauna, Mabaruma Compound and Hosororo.
The winning men’s team took home $25,000 and the championship trophy, while the runner-up received $15,000, while the women’s team collected $20,000 and the winning trophy and second place $10,000.
Trophies were awarded to the tournament’s Most Valuable players in both categories.
