…refutes Health Director’s claim
The doctor attached to the New Amsterdam Hospital is refuting claims that he has agreed to dispense with the matter involving the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Colin Bynoe.
Dr. Shariq Ally, a Government Medical Practitioner attached to the Gynecology Department of the hospital, stated that he never offered to make any apology to the CEO and to have the matter dropped, since it was Bynoe who was wrong to him.
He said the CEO pushed him against the wall and pointed his fingers in his face and asked him if he wants to know what problems he has with him. The entire incident as previously reported did happen and all the information is in the report he made to Minister Joseph Harmon, and his letters to Minister Dr. George Norton and the Director Jevaughn Stephen.
In fact, he is anxious for some closure and wants to know why the matter is taking so long to be fully investigated. He wants a full investigation to be done especially since there are mixed signal now being sent.
He said he feels humiliated, insulted and disrespected the way he was treated by the CEO whilst doing his job. He is also upset that there are words being bandied about that he wants to drop the matter and is afraid of going to the police.
The doctor stated that he cannot understand the statement allegedly made by the Director of Health Services, Jevaughn Stephen, that he is afraid of pursuing the matter any further.
He stated that there was an attempt to hold a meeting by the Director, but nothing came out of that engagement since Bynoe was shouting at the top of his voice and there was a heated exchange before the meeting ended abruptly.
He did not go to the police since he thought that the matter would have been settled within the health sector. He is stating that if the incident is not true why he would take the pains of reporting the incident to Minister of State Joseph Harmon, when he and the Prime Minister visited Berbice last month on the outreach.
He is also questioning why he would report the matter to the Director of Health Services and the Chairman of the Regional Health Committee.
Dr. Ally stated that Minister of Health Dr. George Norton when apprised of the matter informed that he should report the matter to the police or send a letter to him or to the Director.
He has since forwarded the relevant letters detailing what occurred. “Why would I do all of that if the matter was not true?” he queried.
After being apprised of what was mentioned on the news, he questioned Mr. Stephen about the authenticy of that information.
Dr. Ally stated that he was informed by Stephen that a press brief will be held on Monday to clear the air on what was said on the issue.
With respect to the incident, Ally stated that it did happen. He is willing to work with anybody for the betterment of the health sector and Guyana.
Bynoe has been in the news of recent over squabbles he has with Regional Executive Officer Dr. Veerasammy Ramaiah and Medical Superintendent Dr. Vishalia Sharma.
Stephen stated that all matters reported to him are being investigated.
