Living true to his promise to spend $200M every year in Guyana, founder and President of the “Marcus Brian Bisram Foundation” (MBBF) on Thursday made good on that promise when he handed over a refurbish and remodeled traffic department at the Springlands Police Station.
Marcus Brian Bisram, 27, a native of the Corentyne is the Chief Executive Officer and President of MBBF which has its base in New Jersery.
During April at the launching of his foundation at No 70 Village, Corentyne he pledged to spend about $200M per year on various activates and projects in Guyana. He stressed that he wants to continue to give back to his community and to the country at large.
True to his word, not long after, he held discussions with Commander of the Police ‘B’ Division Ian Amsterdam. Subsequently, a decision was taken to reconstruct the Traffic Department of the Springlands Police \Station. That building had fallen into disrepair.
The idea to remodel the traffic department came about after it was observed that persons could have stood on the road and see through the office which was made of wood. Now the new office is constructed with concrete and was remodeled and painted.
Bisram, during his speech, charged the police especially the traffic officers, who will be housed in the building, to take care of it. He told those gathered that it is his hope that those that use the facility treat it with care to allow it to withstand generations to come.
The cost of the remodeling of the project was estimated to be approximately $2M.
The office of MBBF is located in the United States; however, Bishram travels to Guyana on a regular basis to spearhead the different projects undertaken by his organisation.
Amsterdam in his speech expressed thanks to Bishram for thinking about the police. He said that it was a very kindhearted gesture to do something so wonderful, and hope that others could emulate the kindheartedness of the MBBF. The Commander said that the welfare of workers is very important to their comfort level.
The gesture, he said, is a good one that also shows the team work between the community and the police. He said the collaboration is all part of the police new “Team Policing” strategy.
Also speaking at the activity were B Division Traffic Officer, Superintendent Boodnarine Persaud and Mayor of Corriverton, Ganesh Gangadin, among others.
Included in his pledge is to assist Guyanese in various ways including taking them to foreign countries to perform surgeries that cannot be done in Guyana” and “pay for CXC examinations for those who cannot afford”. There are also plans to build a home in Berbice for battered women and children. Food supplies will also be provided to single parents.
Bisram also recently pledged funding for two medical surgeries for persons in the Corentyne area. (Samuel Whyte)
