Den Amstel Football Club on the back of a second half double from Ruben Dainty powered their way to a solid 5-1 win over Eagles Football Club when play in the NAMILCO/GFF Flour Power National Under-17 league / West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) leg continued yesterday at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground.
It was a sound all-round performance from the home team as they made their intentions very clear from the 2nd minute of the encounter when Tadius Edwards found the back of the nets.
Eagles, though while one of the younger clubs on the West Demerara, have been a tough unit and did put up some resistance but eventually caved in to the pressure from Den Amstel.
Akeem Dublin increased the advantage of the home team in the 26th minute even as Eagles were enjoying some good moments but failed to capitalize on the chances they created. Shon Thompson halved the deficit for the Eagles which were able to turn on some early pressure on Den Amstel in the second half.
Den Amstel were on the back foot for about 15 minutes in the final half but absorbed the pressure admirably before turning the tables. Three unanswered goals were registered by Den Amstel as they marched to victory.
Ruben Daniels notched up a double within the space of four minutes; he scored in the 61st and 65th minute, while the sealer came off the boot of Mario Peters in the 71st minute. Eagles tried all they could have but couldn’t breach the Den Amstel defence again.
Matches will continue this Saturday and Sunday at the same venue. (Franklin Wilson)
