cheque for $400,000 to President of the Guyana Volleyball Association (GVA) John Flores at a simple presentation at the GOA office on High Street.
The sponsorship is to assist with the cost of $2.9 million that is needed to ensure the participation of Guyana’s Male Under-23 Volleyball team in the South American Confederation Championship in Columbia from June 21-25.
Flores thanked the GOA for their support and disclosed that the team will be coached by Levi Nedd with Ian Wills as assistant Coach. The team will be named over the weekend since it has to be submitted to the Organizers by Monday.
The side will be trimmed from 18 to 14 and comes from Berbice and Demerara, the two counties which Volleyball is played in at a competitive level.
Flores said that GuyOil is their mayor sponsor which usually provides $3million and encouraged other sponsors to come on board.
The GVA will hold several fund raising events including a dinner in September which will help to send the national female team overseas later this year. (Sean Devers)
