Mc Neal Enterprise collaborates with GABA to host Tribute to Ali
Mc Neal Enterprise has collaborated with the Guyana Armature Boxing Association

(GABA) to stage a tribute to Muhammad Ali on Sunday June 12 from 17:00hrs at the Impeccable Banquet Hall at 90 Brickdam and Sandyman Street, Georgetown.
At a media briefing held at the office of Mc Neal Enterprise, Head Odinga Lumumba disclosed that the tribute to the fallen hero who died last Friday at age 74 will included clips of Ali’s fights and tributes by several prominent Guyanese to the man that labeled himself the Greatest. Ali won 56 of his 61 professional fights, 37 of them by way of knock-out and lost only five.
Lumumba said after hearing of the death of Ali he felt it strange that nobody in Guyana did anything for him.
“Ali was more than just a Boxer, but an activist, teacher and leader for the oppressed and he also came to Guyana (1979) and was loved by all from all religions, nationalities and races, Lumumba, a politician said.
Lumumba said this was the main reason he collaborated with the GABA to stage what should be a reflective edifying evening.
“If I promoted a boxing card in tribute to Ali the lessons of his life’s work would have been lost in the boxing matches. This way we can focus on Ali in all facets of his life” Lumumba added.
GABA President Steve Ninvalle, said Ali, an American born as Cassius Marcellus Clay, went beyond race, religion or country and was loved and respected for what he stood for.
“This is the first time we (GABA) has collaborated with Mc Neal Enterprise and it’s the first of many.
Ninvalle also promised that one of GABA’s bouts will be held in memory of Ali who began training as a boxer when he was 12 years-old. At 18 he won the Light Heavyweight gold medal in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome.
At 22, he won the WBC and WBA heavyweight championships from Sonny Liston in an upset in 1964. Shortly after, Clay announced his conversion to Islam, changed his “slave” name to Ali, and gave a message of racial pride for African Americans and resistance to white domination during the 1960s Civil Rights Movement.
