The Guyana Amateur Weightlifting Association (GAWA) will participate in the Pan American
Dillon Mahadeo during a recent training stint in Brooklyn, New York ahead of the Pan American Championships in Columbia this weekend.
Weightlifting Championships, scheduled for June 3-11 in Cartagena, Colombia with lifter Dillon Mahadeo scheduled to lift in the 94kg Class.
Mahadeo and Manager/Coach, Deion Nurse, were in the United States for a one-week training camp in Brooklyn, New York ahead of the Pan Am Championships. The two-man GAWA team left on June 5 for Colombia.
While there, the two will attend a World Anti-Doping Agency Seminar. General Secretary of the GAWA, Seon Erskine expressed gratitude for the sponsorship received from the National Sports Commission and Guyana Olympic Association.
Meanwhile, Erskine, on behalf of GAWA that is in its 76th year as a national sports association, took the opportunity to express “heartfelt congratulations to former National Lifter and Honorary Life Member, Winston Bentham on being awarded a Medal of Service”.
The GAWA said that this comes “in recognition of his unselfish support to Weightlifting and to sports in general”.
The President and members of the GAWA is hoping that his recognition to service offers an inspiration to the young people of the country and to all Guyanese, a signal of the rewards that true dedication and unwavering determination can bring.
