Fly Jamaica has once again come to the rescue of another Guyanese in need. This time, the airline has donated a round trip to the mother of 16-year-old Shemel Mercurius, who was shot dead in her Brooklyn apartment two
Wednesdays ago.
By Friday, the mother of six, Lovern Williams will be on a plane to the United States of America to attend her daughter’s funeral in Brooklyn.
“Fly Jamaica is a humanitarian airline and Mark Benschop always knows about these things (people in difficult circumstances) and we do our best to assist,” a representative from the company told reporters.
In tears, Williams thanked Fly Jamaica for coming to her rescue. She is also thankful to the US Embassy in Georgetown for understanding her situation and granting her the visa so that she can bid her daughter goodbye.
Williams last spoke with her daughter two days before she was shot dead by a man who is now in custody. The teen left Guyana four years ago.
Yesterday, the woman said that when she received the news of her daughter’s tragic death, she was devastated and could not come to grips with the fact that her daughter is now dead and she would not be speaking with her again.
The woman thanked the Benschop Foundation for assisting her when she really needed the help and for guiding her.
